Children’s Day Message To The Nation- President Buhari

I heartily greet and felicitate with all Nigerian children on the occasion of this year’s Children’s Day celebration.
I seize the opportunity of this year’s celebration which comes just two days before the first anniversary of the present Administration, to reassure our children and youth that we remain fully committed to fulfilling our promise of a better Nigeria for all of our people.
On this happy occasion for our children, I reaffirm my belief that it is the right of every Nigerian child to have access to quality and affordable education, as well as healthcare and other basic necessities for a good life, in a peaceful and secure environment.
The good health and well-being of Nigerian children remain a top priority on our agenda for national development and we have demonstrated our strong commitment in this regard with the allocation of N12.6 billion in the 2016 budget for vaccines and programmes to prevent childhood killer diseases such as polio, measles and yellow fever.
Other measures in the 2016 budget, such as the school feeding programme for children at a cost of N93.1 billion, will ensure that more children go to school and enjoy the fun of learning and growing together with their peers.
Despite the current economic and funding challenges facing our dear nation, my administration will continue to do all within its powers to achieve better living conditions and greater access to quality healthcare and education for all our youth.
It is a thing of joy that on this year’s Children’s Day, we can also celebrate the safe return of one of the Chibok girls, Amina Ali Nkeki and many other abducted women and children who have been freed from the clutches of Boko Haram by our gallant troops.
I assure all Nigerians and friends of the country, once again, that my administration will not rest on its oars until the ungodly terrorist sect is totally eliminated from our country.
As peace gradually returns to the insurgency-ravaged North-Eastern States, the Federal Government will continue to work diligently to ensure the rapid and full reintegration and rehabilitation of all internally displaced persons, including orphaned children in the region.
We will also sustain and strengthen ongoing actions to protect children more effectively from violence, child-labour, child-trafficking, forced marriages and other related offences.
In return, I urge you all to imbibe and exhibit in greater measure, the virtues of hard work, diligence, discipline, honesty, prudence, selflessness and patriotism which are essential for the actualisation of our vision of a truly great nation.
The world now looks up to our dear nation, Nigeria as an exemplary model of democratic ideals after the smooth transition that brought our Administration to power.
You, our children and youth have a very significant role to play in ensuring that our democratic institutions of governance are continuously nurtured, improved and strengthened to underpin national development and prosperity.
Remain assured that under my leadership, the Federal Government will continue to do its best to prepare and equip you to show the world that with its brilliant, resourceful and resilient people, Nigeria is a country of incredible potential and opportunity.

most racist advert ever- see how blacks were portrayed in this chinese advert causing outrage

A black man and a young Chinese woman are flirting, as he leans in for a kiss she thrusts a detergent capsule in his mouth and bundles him into a laundry machine.

 

She sits atop the machine as the man spins and screams inside until, to her apparent delight, out pops a handsome Chinese man dressed in a clean, white t-shirt. 

 

This staggeringly offensive advert is attracting outrage on both the Chinese and wider web, with users blasting it for being racist.

"My god," wrote one user on Weibo, China's version of Twitter. "Don't Chinese marketing people get any education about race?"

"If you don't understand why it's racist, congratulations, you're a racist," wrote another, after some commenters tried to defend the ad.

Stigma and stereotypes

The ad isn't even original. It seemingly rips off a similar, and also offensive, Italian advert, in which an slim Italian man is washed with "color" detergent and emerges a muscular black man with the slogan "Color is better."

The company behind the Chinese ad, Qiaobi, did not respond to requests for comment from CNN, and has not addressed the growing outrage on the Chinese web.

This wouldn't be the first time ads in China have been accused of racial insensitivity, there was considerable criticism online after the Chinese posters for "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" seemed to downplay black actor -- and co-lead -- John Boyega.

While a large number of Africans live in China, particularly in southern Guangdong province, many have complained of facing discrimination and prejudice from locals due in part to a widespread stigma against dark skin.

That stigma also exists in other Asian countries, a Thai beauty company was forced to withdraw an ad and issue an apology after it released a commercial saying "just by being white, you will win."

Teen mom gives birth to heaviest baby girl ever born in the world

 – A teen mother has given birth to a baby girl weighing an enormous 6.8kg

 – She is believed to be the heaviest female baby ever born in the world

 – “She is a beautiful gift of God. I am happy that she is doing well.

” Nandini, aged 19, has welcomed her first child on Monday, May 23. The baby girl was successfully deliverd via C-section at a government-run hospital in Hassan in southern state Karnataka, India. She is really big and beautiful. She does not have any health issues like irregular sugar levels or thyroid and is breathing well. world's biggest baby The baby weighs a whopping 6.8kg We were initially concerned about her sugar levels but that is normal. She mother had made regular visits for check-ups at the hospital and never showed signs of gestational diabetes or thyroid disorders. Both the mother and the child are doing fine and we will discharge them once we are confident of the baby’s health.” Happy parents, Nandini and her husband Arun, are now counting the days when they can bring their daughter home.

herdsmen may have some affiliation with Bokoharam- Buratai warns

– Tukur Buratai, the chief of army staff, warned Nigerians that violent herdsmen may have links with the Boko Haram sect

 – He stressed the the Nigerian army was investigating the activities of the herdsmen and called on Nigerians to be security conscious

 – According to him, timely information is one of the best ways to prevent any violent attacks 

 Chief-of-Army-Staff-Lt.-Gen.-Tukur-Buratai “We want to call on all Nigerians to be security conscious and to report any suspicious persons or group of people that are roaming about in their communities.” Tukur Buratai, the chief of army staff (COAS), has alleged that violent herdsmen ravaging some parts of Nigeria may have links with the Boko Haram sect. Premium Times reports that Buratai said this on Thursday, May 26, in Abeokuta, while visiting Ibikunle Amosun, the governor of Ogun state. Stressing that the army was investigating the activities of the herdsmen, the COAS noted that timely information was one of the best ways to prevent any violent attacks. “We want to call on all Nigerians to be security conscious and to report any suspicious persons or group of people that are roaming about in their communities.“One may not be too far from the fact that some of these herdsmen that are attacking communities across the country may have some affiliation with the Boko Haram terrorists. “This we are further investigating and also pursuing them so that we can address the situation, so let’s be security conscious. Let’s report quickly movement of suspicious persons carrying arms. “If you suspect any individual within your community, we should be able to report immediately,” he stressed. Buratai added that the troops deployed in certain areas are cooperating with the police to be able to tackle any challenge that may come. Earlier this week, the Nigerian military vowed to continue its onslaught on groups threatening the peace of the country. Speaking at the International Maritime Conference, Gen. Gabriel Olonisakin, the chief of defence staff, and Vice Admiral Ibok Ete-Ibas, the chief of naval staff, promised that the Niger Delta militants, Boko Haram and killer herdsmen would be brought down.

Man kills his brother over torchlight in Lagos

A man identified as Remi Adelaja is on the run after he allegedly killed his elder brother, Mayowa Adelaja, during an argument over torchlight at their home at Adelaja Street, off Afariogun, Oshodi in Lagos today May 8th. According to The Nation, the incident happened at about 2am.

A resident of the area who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the deceased was looking for the torchlight and asked his younger brother if he had seen it but Remi claimed he didn't know where it was..

 “Their mother, Mrs. Adelaja is a bread seller. The suspect brought his five children to his father’s house after he lost his wife and since then, they have been staying together. Although, the deceased has been complaining about it. But last night, the deceased was looking for torchlight and asked his younger brother who said he knew nothing about it. The issue later resulted to a quarrel because the two of them have been having problems. The next thing they started fighting. The elder brother used iron rod to hit the younger one twice but the suspect ran inside, brought a knife and stabbed his older brother on the stomach. That was how he fell down and died on the spot. Everyone ran only his mother was left. Then, Mayowa’s dogs surrounded him on the ground. The police came around 2am,” said the source.

Doyin Okupe admits receiving money from NSA

– Doyin Okupe says he is not a party to Dasukigate saga 
– He admits receiving fund from the office of Dasuki 
– He says he did not collect campaign fund 

Doyin Okupe has admitted that he received money from the office of the national security adviser but said it has nothing to do with the infamous Dasukigate saga. Col Sambo Dasuki served as the national security adviser during the administration of former president, Goodluck Jonathan and was arrested by the EFCC following revelation that his office was used to disburse $2.1 billion to members of the Peoples Democratic Party. The fund was meant for the purchase of arms. The case which has been referred to as #Dasukigate has several members of the PDP being prosecuted or under the radar of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC)

Doyin Okupe said Dasuki schemed him out of Jonathan's reelection campaign Doyin Okupe Okupe who served as Jonathan’s senior special assistant on public affairs, however denied the funds he received were part of the $2.1 billion arms deal. Via his social media account, he claimed he was not a part of the #Dasukigate largesse. “I was not paid arms deal money. NSA paid for running of my office monthly from August 2012. Dasuki-gate was in 2014.” “President is empowered by the Constitution to run his office as he deems fit. NSA is a staff of the president and subject to his orders.” Premium Times reports that Okupe claimed he did not take part in campaign and therefore could not have participated in the disbursement of election fund. “I did not take part in campaign,” READ ALSO: ECA: Adeosun indicts GEJ’s government (video) “I was not involved in any aspect of the campaign. Neither was my office.” “However, I kept up with my duties as a principal aide of the president and continued media engagement and interface where necessary. I received no special funds for any program or project connected with electioneering.” Okupe’s public denial is coming a few days after the EFCC invited Mr Femi Fani-Kayode who also allegedly received fund from the scam.
